  3. Granular Cell Layer: the cells form hard granules, which, when scrolling upwardly, turn into keratin and lipids.
  4. Shining Layer: cells lie tightly together and are flat, and the borders between them are blurred.
  5. Stratum Corneum: the outermost layer of the epidermis. Dead cells peel regularly off the skin. In this layer, there are also pores of the sweat glands and the sebaceous gland.

The dermis is a thick, flexible, firm middle layer of skin. The main structural components of the dermis are collagen* and elastin. It consists of:

  • Lower Layer: a deep, thick area that forms a liquid boundary with subcutaneous tissue
  • Upper Layer: forms a sharp, wavy border with the epidermis.

Subcutaneous tissue is a deep layer under the dermis. This layer stores energy and ensures the insulation and upholstery of the body. It consists of fat cells, particular collagen fibers that hold together fat cells and blood vessels.

*Collagens are natural proteins that are essential components of connective tissue of the bones, tendons, cartilage, skin, nails, and hair.

Skin Changes With Aging

Due to various factors, the skin begins to produce fewer lipids (fatty acids, ceramides,etc.) and hygroscopic ingredients that protect it from moisture. Effects of physiological aging and some stress can cause dehydration. The skin barrier is damaged, that why becomes fragile and unprotected.
